Maximo Park announced a new batch of U.S. tour dates, but nothing in the DC/MD/VA area. Frowny face.
I probably won't make it to tonight's iPod Jukebox Zipcar-sponsored happy hour but it looks like it'll be fun. You should go and tell me how it was. The only transportation-themed song in my iTunes library at work seems to be Jens Lekman's "Black Cab." A bit of a downer for happy hour. Do songs about walking count as transportation-themed? If so, I also have Tegan and Sara's "Walking With a Ghost" and The Radio Arts' "Walk Right Through."
Congratulations to all of my friends at DCFUD, who got love from the Washingtonian!
I may or may not have just purchased these shoes. They were on mega-sale at Daisy Too, I swear.
When you work for men, they go out of their way to make you do things like photocopy instead of inviting you to important meetings. When you work for women, they peer-pressure you into buying shoes. It's a lose/lose situation, I guess, since I really shouldn't be buying shoes. Especially really tall ones that don't really match anything except black. Luckily, I wear a lot of black.

Is it just me, or is this day really, really dragging?
I keep forgetting to point to the bluestate battle royale 2005 setlists.
I've been listening to the upcoming Oranger album, New Comes and Goes, today. I think I really like it, even though I'm not quite sure why, since it's not particularly emotional or danceable or gorgeous or any of those other things that tend to draw me into an album. Some of the songs remind me of Ambulance LTD and a few others remind me of older Jimmy Eat World songs. Overall, I'd describe it as pretty, simple indie pop -- melodic, a bit fuzzy, catchy. I've seen the band called "psych-pop," if you'd like a genre.

A belated post about the weekend... It was a busy one that started with DCSOB's going away roof party on Friday night and ended with passing out after Entourage on Sunday night. As all roof parties do, this one devolved into complete insanity, with drunken break dancing lessons and keg stands and running around in the amazingly powerful storm at two in the morning. I didn't do any of these things, but I was quite entertained as an observer. (I was quite tempted to run around in the rain, but didn't feel like waiting for the bus/riding the bus completely soaked afterwards.)
After finally getting to sleep around four in the morning, I was woken around 11 to meet EK, along with her mother and grandmother, at Tyson's Corner for wedding dress shopping. We went through Tyson's Galleria, Tyson's Corner and then David's Bridal in Rockville. The first time I saw her walk out of the fitting room in a wedding dress, I almost got tears in my eyes, and I am so not the girl who cries as a result of anything wedding-related. Seeing your friends in wedding dresses is just so weird, and of course I'm happy for her because she and her fiance are a really good match and she's very happy. She didn't find the dress yet, but got a good idea of what she likes. And in the middle of the shopping (well, actually, on the way to the car between malls) she asked me to be her maid of honor and I got all emotional again. Aside from being flattered that she asked me, and aside from knowing that I'm going to have a lot of work to do, I'm happy because it means I get some input into what I'm going to wear, and I may get to wear something slightly different than the other three bridesmaids. But she has good taste anyway, so I wouldn't have been concerned anyway.
When I got home from the emotional wedding dress shopping excursion, I was already quite tired, but got on the bus and headed to the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Woodley Park for the first stop on Mike's 30-90 Bus Pub Crawl Challenge. I like hotel bars for some reason, and this was a good one. We didn't stay there long because we had to keep on schedule and move on to Pharmacy Bar, which happens to be one of my favorite bars in the city. We could have walked there, but we had to take the bus in order to keep with the purpose of the evening. Six of us boarded a 98 (the short bus) and headed to Pharmacy, where our number grew.
One of the pictures taken with my Treo on the short bus:
At least the Treo is serving some purpose.
Pharmacy Bar was the only place where I had a drink, because I was too sleepy to have more than one, and Pharmacy carries Pilsner Urquell, a Czech beer I like. The next stop was DC9, where more people were waiting for us. Despite being sober, I was majorly spacing out and being somewhat antisocial. At some point while at DC9, Jeff and I made out for a few seconds, and now we're going steady. After midnight, most people continued to the final stop somewhere on the Hill, but I was too tired to leave NW. Instead, I somehow convinced Jeff and Julie to go to Bliss with me and dance all the way through the last song.
Needless to say, I easily could have spent all day Sunday sleeping and/or watching movies, but I promised to take my grandmother bra shopping out in The B.C. Yes, bra shopping. It's not as traumatic as it sounds because all I had to do was go through the racks and pick them out and bring them to her to try on while I waited outside of the fitting room. I did get a lecture on the dangers of underwire, as well as about how drinking more than six glasses of water can make you fat. After taking my grandmother back to her apartment, I briefly stopped by my parents' and then headed back to the District, getting here just in time to watch most of Six Feet Under (I caught up on the first 15 minutes last night during a repeat) and Entourage. I'm really hoping that next weekend has more downtime.
